Description :
The Festival of Light is a Christian lobby group whose aim is to promote certain standards of behaviour and to strengthen support for the family unit as the basic unit of society. The first Australian branch was founded in Adelaide in 1973 by Helen Caterer and the Rev Lance Shilton. It was based on the UK organisation begun in 1971 by Malcolm Muggeridge and Mary Whitehouse. Mary Whitehouse came to Adelaide in October 1973 to launch the inaugural Australian Festival at a gathering of 12,000 at Montefiore Hill.
