Description :

Embarking in October 1914 the 10th Battalion was one of the first two AIF units to land at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915.
The 10th Battalion was also involved in the fighting on the Western Front at Pozieres, Mouquet Farm, Ypres, and the great Allied offensive in France at Amiens in 1918.

Stanley Price Weir, born in Norwood in 1866, was appointed as a Lieutenant Colonel and given comand of the 10th Battalion. For Weir's 'gallantry and his consistent skill, tact and judgement in command' he won the Distinguished Service Order. He he retired from the A.M.F. in March 1921 as an honorary brigadier general.
