Description : |
A sketch of a Port Lincoln Ringneck Parrot shot at Pernatty Creek, north west of Port Augusta. Includes hand written notes describing the features of the bird: black head, yellow collar, green throat and chest, bright yellow below shading to green at tail, bright blue feathers over lower mandible. Also known as a Yellow-banded Parrot it is found in western South Australia, southern Northern Territory and most of Western Australia, except the far north. Benjamin Herschel Babbage arrived in South Australia in 1851 and undertook engineering and geological survey work. In 1858 he was the leader of a government expedition instructed to explore and survey the country north from Port Augusta. |
