Description :

Wombat warren close to the road on the Nullarbor Plains.

Wombats are extremely strong diggers and construct burrows that have several entrances clustered to form a large warren that itself may have smaller warrens connected by trails. The whole system may run up to 150 metres in length. Eight to ten wombats may occupy one of these burrows, although not necessarily at the same time. Being nocturnal, and rather sedentary, they remain in these burrows during the day to conserve water and energy.
