Fowler Lion factory

D and J Fowler (Australia) Ltd. was established by David and James Fowler in 1854. The business was originally a retail outlet in King William Street but it soon expanded to a wholesale business with many varied interests. Eventually the company became one of Australia's largest wholesale grocers with investments in diverse areas such as milling, tea and bottling.

In 1992 Fowler's North Terrace factory and surrounds were converted into an arts precinct, known as the Lion Arts Centre.
