Description :
The use of coloured glass in church windows dates back to Roman times. During the Middle Ages figures and symbols came to be used in the designs, but it was in the 19th century that glass window making and design reached its peak, with churches of all denominations installing leadlight windows. In the late 20th century church window design became more abstract, contrasting with the traditional iconographic designs. The window designed and made by Elizabeth Blades for the hall of St Ann's Anglican Church at Aldinga in 2001 is in memory of Shelley Philpott, a young member of the parish who was killed in a road accident in 1994 while training as an evangelist with the Church Army and contemplating ordination. The design represents a candle 'blazing up.'
