Description :

Between 14 and 17 July 1891 LA Wells reported seeing everyday of his trip, the tracks and camp sites of many Aboriginal people. The nature of the country continued much the same as that previously travelled by the whole expedition, with isolated sandstone outcrops, some of which contained rock holes with water, sand ridges and gravelly flats between them. Vegetation was sparse but on 14, 15 and 16 July there was sufficient feed for the camels. He surprised several Aboriginal women in their camps who ran away. Wells did not attempt to pursue them.

Larry Wells had left the main party of the Elder Scientific Expedition on 10 July 1891. His flying trip to the south of the main route would enable the expedition to explore more territory. His route took him south to latitude 28 degrees 22 minutes at which point he turned north on a course which enabled him to rejoin the main party on 22 July near the Western Australia-South Australia border near Mount Agnes, in the Blyth Hills. An extensive wedge of territory was thus added to the map of north western South Australia.
